The Audi story encompasses more than 100 years of innovation. The Audi story begins in 1899 in Germany when August Horch started an automobile manufacturing company, Horch & Cie, in Cologne. After a conflict with the board, he left to form a second company. Because his name was already in use and trademarked, at the suggestion of his partner's son he chose the Latin translation of Horch (or “hark,” in English) for the new company so Horch became Audi.
In 1932, Audi AG was born when four previously independent motor vehicle manufacturers – Audi, Horch, Wanderer and DKW – merged and the iconic logo of four interlocking rings was created.
